I recently wrote an article that was posted on Lyved.com about saving energy during the holidays, but all of this planning for 2009 that I am doing both personally and with my company, Equity Thru Energy, has got me thinking that New Year’s Eve is an entirely separate, energy-guzzling beast that is worth of being addressed.
The New Year’s Eve Ball in Times Square went green recently through the addition of LED lighting, which uses a lot less energy. And although you can’t really be environmentally friendly when you are dealing with a giant ball of lights, this is a step in the right direction. I came across a great piece on Planet Green on How to Go Green for New Year’s. As always with their website, I think there’s some great information there, and it’s definitely worth taking a look.
Probably the best thing you can do is set aside one of your New Year’s resolutions to be greener and save more energy. Our president-elect Barack Obama said it nicely (albeit a little crudely) when he explained that solving problems like climate change is a collective effort. So make those resolutions, and don’t forget to reserve one for saving the planet.
